A Church Community on the move....
A welcome change is about to take place in one of Kidderminster's
town churches, a change which we trust will bring new impetus and
focus in its mission. What makes this project so special is that it
is ecumenically based, providing a place of spiritual refreshment
and challenge in our community. It comes at a time when the town centre
is undergoing a major regeneration, and is testimony to the fact that
the Church of God is involved in the business of change, and is always
ready to respond to new challenges.
And what a challenge we have on our hands! Since our last public meeting
at Baxter in January 2001, a great deal has happened. A small committee
have been meeting on a regular basis to examine the process which
needs to be undertaken for a project of this size. We have been in
contact with a number of individuals have have shown great enthusiasm
in sharing their expertise with us, and helping to draw our attention
to the issues that need to be dealt with in preparation.
One of the key areas for our committee to be concerned about has been
the issue of fund-raising. We have had a number of choirs approach
us about concerts for the Baxter Project, and the first to perform
at a concert in Baxter in December were the Valentines and the New
Dimensional Experience choirs. Our special thanks to all who made
the evening a very special occasion. We raised just over £1500, bring
the total funds raised to just over £2000. A Charitable Company account
has been applied for, and the Committee are now in the process of
forging links with various groups in the town who may well be interested
in supporting our project.
